Clothing:

During the summer months, expect temperatures of around 30ºC during the day so light clothing is essential. November to January can be fairly cold, around 16ºC dropping to around 6ºC at night and you may also want to bring an umbrella. It is always adviseable to have a cardigan or sweater even in summer as it is always cooler at night. During the hotter months especially, sun creams are essential. Although nowadays it is not imperative for ladies to cover their heads when entering churches in Spain, it is still appreciated, so if this sort of sight seeing is high on your agenda, a head scarf might be included in your packing.

Eating Out:

The Spanish love to eat out, from Gourmet restaurants to village bars so you are usually spoilt for choice. They also eat very late in the evening so many places in this area can look closed at 8pm and rocking by 10.00pm! Most food is typically Spanish, usually very good with an abundance of fresh fish and seafood, a lot of lamb dishes, paellas and salad. The meat dishes are generally plain but succulent. Prices vary according to establishment but it is not hard in the smaller places to eat for around £5.00 per head including your drinks!

As this is a mainly Spanish area a pocket guide to Spanish is very useful to help you through any difficult situations. Although the Spanish are extremely friendly and polite, there are times when just a couple of words make communication a lot easier

House Hunters:

Buying a house in Spain is a major step for anybody, beset with pitfalls and problems. We've done it so let us help you with your house hunting, at least by giving you a comfortable stay, a hearty breakfast and a welcome at the end of the day to discuss your progress over a pint or two or a glass of wine. You don't have to be left in the dark - we will help you all we can and hopefully point you in the right direction. Generally, estate agents in this area are very helpful and we can help you here too. Come and discover the area, make sure you like it (as we do) and then go from there. One of the major attractions for us when we first came here was the fact that it is so green. Having seen much of the hot and arrid parts of Spain, this was definitely a plus, added to that the friendliness of the people and the fact that it is not as commercial as other better known areas.

Golfers:

Spain is well known for its golf courses and we are fortunate to have eight 18 hole courses within a short drive away including a 9 hole in Gandia.

Flight Information:

Although Valencia is the nearest airport to us, Alicante is serviced by most charter flights. If you are looking on the internet for your flight, it is well worth checking Valencia as you may be lucky enough to find a good deal and not have so far to drive.
The motorway tolls are approximately 4 Euros from Valencia and 8 Euros from Alicante.

Travel Insurance:

It is always important to have some form of travel insurance in case of emergencies and to carry a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).
